About Matthew Lubin
I am a repatriated writer, editor, proofreader, and social media consultant from New Jersey. I currently work as an adjunct ESL instructor and writing tutor at a community college. I am always interested in other opportunities, especially in publishing.
I spent three and a half years working in Shenzhen, China. I write on a variety of subjects in different forms (fiction, reviews, non-fiction, poetry, screenplay). I have worked for The New Jersey Law Journal as assistant editor and a few clients as a freelance editor and writer. Most recently I was professor of academic writing in English at Harbin Institute of Technology Shenzhen Graduate School. In December 2008, I created the China-centric literary journal Terracotta Typewriter. Since it was created, I have published nine issues on the site.
My work has appeared in Asia's Best Hotels and Resorts (3rd ed.), Shenzhen Daily, TravelSort, American Drivel Review, The Aroostook Review, Ink Collective, and American Poets Abroad. I maintain a blog of my China experience and other musings at The Waiguoren Critic of South China, which has had posts picked up by Global Voices.
My philosophy when it comes to travel is to take the middle road--don't travel cheap, don't take luxury tours, don't plan too much. The experience of travel always involves culture and food, usually at the same time. It's rare that I find food that I don't enjoy--every country has something special for the culinary enthusiast.
I've traveled to Panama, England, Ireland, The Netherlands, Canada, Israel, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia (Bali). In China I've been to Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Macau, Zhaoqing, Shanghai, Beijing, Xi'an, Tianjin, Urumqi, Shihezi, Chengdu, Huanglong/Jiuzhaigou, Songpan, Leshan, Shuyang, Xiamen, Zhouzhuang, Guilin, and Yangshuo.
Contact me if you would be interested in hiring me for editing and/or writing work. I am available for freelance work or if you need any Asian travel stories or travel advice.
